Design Wall Monday

I've been a little busy.

My son got word that his kitchen cabinets are in the final stage of the building process and will be ready to install soon. So I made a trip to his house to get the kitchen ceiling and walls painted. I got there on Monday and got the ceiling painted. I let my mom know what I was up to and my parents came over the next day so she could help with the walls. She is very good at painting trim. While she did that I rolled the walls.

We made a good team and were finished by lunchtime. Son is very happy with the results.

I did some sewing last week, too.

I got the RSC block for October pieced.

This is the last color - light, bright green. This is not a good photo, sorry. The remaining tasks for the year are to catch up, if needed, and assemble. I have ten blocks so I will be making two more.

I have 56 blocks pieced for the SBC 2021. I need 7 more.

 I have fewer light-colored blocks but have nothing in my stash that will work so this project is on hold until I get some. And, that is one reason why I have UFOs!

I got Rainbow Rails pieced.

It has been added to the ever-growing pile of tops waiting to be quilted. There are seven in that pile now.

I got the center of  Fun with 4 pieced.

Now to cut and add the borders.

I have laid out the blocks from the Quilter's Exchange of 2017-18.

We used Winter Village by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts. As you can see I made mine a little more colorful.

And, finally, I am adding a border to the Cubs side of the futon cover. I cut the squares too small.

After this, I can quilt both sides and start the assembly process.

I think my next new project will be Dinner Plate Dahlia, a Quiltworx pattern. Husband insisted we order it.

Sometimes I think the cutting and organizing of the Quiltworx patterns take as long as the sewing, but the instructions are so good and keep things so well organized that it makes them a joy to work on.

I saw something unusual today...

I needed to run a few errands today. When going through town I did a double-take at the 4-way stop. This is a horrible photo and it is hard to tell what I was taking a photo of, but...

...that yellow and green blurry blob just right of center in this photo...it's a PARROT! I least I think it's a parrot. It was a big, colorful bird, just hanging out the window (like a dog) enjoying the ride.

The hummingbirds are still hanging around.

The starlings made a stop in our yard one day.

I've been busy this week.

I helped Husband bale corn stalks. He uses them for bedding.

There are seven big round bales still in the field. We baled 120 small square bales, too.

I got a butterfly made for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge using orange, the color for September.

I finished the quilting on the Beachcomber jacket.

I quilted a different motif in each star block and in most of the filler pieces. I have learned a lot about my machine and how it works!

 I started sewing the pieces together this morning.

I started sewing together blocks from the scraps I cut during phone conversations with Son. This is Disappearing Rail Fence by Create with Claudia.

Sometimes when he calls he talks for hours so I try to be productive. So far I am only using green and white all from my scraps and stash. I know that I don't have enough of either cut. I haven't decided if this will be a green and white quilt or if I will mix it up. I think I have too many greens already cut to add too many colors, but gold/yellow might be nice. Green is my favorite color and Son votes for leaving it green and white only so that is probably what I will do. 

I got all the setting triangles cut and three rows sewn together on this Exchange quilt.

I got the backing loaded for this Rainbow Scrappy Squares quilt.

I have been asked to make a hunting quilt similar to the quilt I made my son. This is my son's quilt.

 I had entered it at the county fair. A guy saw it, liked it, and contacted his friend to see if he knew who made it. That friend knows our family and contacted my son who relayed the message to me. The guy wants something similar for his son-in-law who is a duck and goose hunter. Some of the fabrics have arrived.

 I will be using the Panel Plus pattern,  Option 2, pending the approval of the person who requested the quilt.

Of course, the center will be the Duck and Goose panel. The borders will be fabrics to coordinate with the panel.

And, now I need to go do some yard work and later clean up this mess on the bed in my sewing room. 

In defense of the mess, I know exactly what is what - I am trying to organize my yard and get it all in one tub. Also, projects in various stages of completion, patterns that have parts available for weekly printing, stacks of fabrics for projects waiting for the rest to arrive, scrapbooking supplies. In time it will all be better organized and hopefully finished. I hope no one needs to spend the night any time soon!

What's going on

 around here.

I have been stitching. 

Coral Reef is pieced and ready for quilting. I have the backing already but won't quilt this for a while.

I am playing around with a layout for this quilt which is from an exchange with my quilt group...from 2016. 

I need to complete one block and make one more for this layout. 

I want to use as much of the fabric as possible, so I am wondering how the setting triangles might look as random fabrics with a thin solid purple border followed by the purple print for about a 5-inch border. The binding would be solid purple. I'm also wondering if the Roman Stripe block (second row, left) needs an applique or something in the white area. Your thoughts/suggestions are welcomed.

I stitched up the next clue in the mystery my quilt group is doing.

This is the RSC through August.

Dark blue was the July color. Aqua is the color for August. Since my light blue block has some aqua-ish colors I opted to make a brown/tan block. 

For the past week or so I have been watching this creature remake its web every evening.

Thankfully it is on the outside of the window.

My yard is in bloom.

This is what I see when I look out my front door. My beds are messy. I know that. I know I need to get out there and pull some weeds and neaten up everything. But, it has been very hot here the last few days. And, I stand here several times a day and just enjoy the view. Sometimes I see butterflies or hummingbirds. And, once in a while I will see a beautiful bird that I don't see often here. It brings me joy. 

The Hibiscus gets a little bigger every year. 

The blossoms are bigger than my hand! and so beautiful.

We are having stormy weather today.

I have a volunteer pumpkin plant. No pumpkins though. Hmm?

And, something is eating the green beans.

That's what's going on in my little corner of the world.
