Rainy Design Wall Monday

Husband started harvesting corn on Saturday. It's a rainy day here so that will keep him out of the field.

The rain has stopped for now so he is taking the full wagons to the elevator.

I got all the parts pieced for the Beachcomber Jacket.

It's not going to look exactly like the pattern photo, but I hope Husband likes it anyway. I know I like it. Now it needs to be quilted. I will at least get the backing loaded on the frame today. We are supposed to have scattered thunderstorms for the next two days so I don't know if I want to plug in the longarm.

I finished the bear quilt, but had hardly gotten it out of the dryer when Husband said "Let's deliver it!".

The grandpa of the baby seemed to like it and so did his co-workers. I hope the mother does too. I forgot to get a photo of it finished. 

There are still some hummingbirds hanging around.

They seem to enjoy sitting on the top of the hook. I know they will be moving on soon so I enjoy watching them while I can.

I took this photo for my son. He loved watching the Kratt brothers and Zoboomafoo, a children's TV series that featured a mystery animal each episode, when he was young.

Design Wall Monday

I've been busy. I helped Husband bale hay yesterday and will again today.

I visited Son last week. He was thankful to restock his groceries and just for some time out of the house. His walls are mostly prepped for painting but we are still waiting on the electrician. I don't want to paint since he will be making holes in the wall to add outlets and check some wires. 

On the quilting front, I got this little quilt quilted. The binding is made but still needs to be attached and stitched down. 

I pieced this little top. It is Olde Glory, a free pattern from Temecula Quilt Company.

The green paisley will be the backing. The floral plaid will be the binding.

I finished all the stars and some 9-patch blocks for the Beachcomber Jacket.

The sweatshirt still needs to be cut apart. Husband about had a heart attack when I told him that was the next step. He was fine once he realized why that needed to be done. I will be cutting the sweatshirt apart later this week after I quilt this Bear Hug quilt.

The bear is Minkee type fabric with a flannel belly to make it soft and cuddly.

Grandpa is the New Holland mechanic who comes to our place to work on Husband's farm equipment so of course, come New Holland combines and tractors need to make an appearance.

He was pretty excited about the baby when he told Husband he is going to be a grandpa.

His daughter and son-in-law know the gender of the baby, but they aren't telling anyone. He doesn't know I am making this quilt. I know it looks very boyish, but I hope it is acceptable whatever the gender is.

I have been asked to make a few more masks lately. I am thankful for my fabric stash and sewing skills but I am looking forward to the day Covid is gone and masks are no longer needed.

I just keep sewing.

I got another quilt on the frame, quilted and bound.

This one is all scraps and stash. The batting is pieced. The binding is made from strips from the 2- 1/2 inch drawer, including some leftover bindings from other quilts. The backing is a wide back that had been in my stash for a while.

Then I did the same thing with another one.

The top is scraps from my stash. I purchased the backing just for this quilt. I used the backing fabric for the binding. 

I haven't made any more Icicle Stars but I did find something that may work for the border.

I was looking for something with lots of color on a black background. I was hoping to find something more 'bold', but this one has lots of color. Your thoughts?

I like to keep a project in the cutting stage handy to work on during phone calls with Son. The calls usually last a while, which is fine, but I like to have something to do while talking to him. Sewing with the machine seems to be too loud so cutting fabric works well. I got this project all cut and wanted to see what a block looked like sewn together. Well, they went together so quickly that I just kept sewing and now have half the blocks pieced.

I have had a little wildlife activity at my house this week, some welcomed, some not so much.

First, the welcomed activity is that I am seeing Hummingbirds again. Not often and usually only in the early morning.

I have decided that I must be in the flight path of the migration route since I don't see them much at all except in spring and about this time of year.

Another welcomed sight...

Monarch butterflies and beautiful Sunflowers.

The not so welcomed little critter is this squirrel. Oh, it looks so innocent here. It was a hot day and Squirrel just leisurely strolled up the ramp railing and sprawled out.

After a bit Squirrel stood up, turned around, and sprawled out again. After a while, he strolled down the ramp to my flower boxes. At that point, I went out and scared it off. Around here squirrels are a little destructive. Squirrel must have come back at some point to test out the flowers.

You may notice in the pictures of the Hummingbird above that there is a walnut tree growing in amongst the Rudbeckia, There are walnut trees growing all over my flowerbeds and lawn. I find walnuts buried in all my flower pots. Last night one (maybe this one) launched itself at the window where I was sitting inside and clung to the screen before falling to the ground! I don't think it likes me. D*&n Squirrels!

And, the Cicadas...

At first, I thought this one was a discarded shell, but then it moved.
