Design Wall Monday

To see what other quilters are up to go to Small Quilts and Doll Quilts.

I have a little progress to show on a couple of projects.

I have worked on sewing together some more Churn Dash blocks.
I had a twelve-inch block leftover from something and decided to make two more to be interspersed with the six-inch blocks. The row on the left is just pinned up there for now. It will go on the bottom. Those two larger blocks will not be next to each other.

I started piecing the next block for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

The color this month is red.

I have been making blocks for the Scrap Busters Challenge 2021 out of blues. I decided I want to add a border. I have not been in a quilt store for a year so I shopped online. I like shopping online and do that anyway, but when colors need to be matched it's hard. I ordered two fabrics that I thought would work.

I wasn't happy with either one. I love the stripe (for binding) and floral border fabric, but I don't think it is quite right with the blues. I did pull some purples and greens to go with those in the border print, but I think I like the other fabric better. I keep the curtains closed in my sewing room to protect my fabrics from fading. But, the other day I decided to open them, and seeing the blocks with the dandelion fabric in a new light makes me think they look ok together. What do you think?

I made another six-inch block for a fair entry. The talk is there will be a fair, but it may be a little different this year.
These will eventually get used in the 365 Challenge quilt.

I got all the HSTs pieced for my quilt group mystery.

I finally saw a hummingbird the other day. And, it or another one, came back the next day. It was thirsty and came back to the feed several more times.

Then a pair of barn swallows visited.

I was surprised to see them by the house. They have a nest in the tool shed. Husband says every morning when he opens the big overhead door, one flies out and one flies in and goes to the nest. Parenting in shifts.

The yellow irises are starting to bloom.

I have plants and seeds that need to go in the ground, but it has been very cool, frost warnings the last few nights, windy and rainy here.

Husband and I are fully vaccinated now. A little soreness in our arms and a sort of blah feeling the day after, but good now. We both decided that was worth it if that protects us.

Say safe and well.

Monday in May

To see what other quilters are up to go to Small Quilts and Doll Quilts.

Today my post is more about what is going on in my yard than quilting.

Quilting first: Sewing down the binding on Son's deer quilt.

I have finished piecing Units A, B, C, D, E, and F of Coral Reef. Next is Unit G, then putting it all together.

Clue 4 for the Quilter's Exchange Mystery my group is doing was emailed yesterday. I have half the HSTs made.

Lastly, I pieced a 6-inch block for the 365 Challenge. I plan to show it at fair if there is one this year.

It appears the frost and cold weather didn't really affect much.

Lilacs are in full bloom. Outside smells pretty amazing.

The Lily of the Valley are about to bloom.

The apple tree is in full bloom.

The Rhododendron is blooming. This plant has not bloomed in several years so that is pretty amazing.

I saw a Baltimore Oriole yesterday, a rare sighting for me. I had taken down the hummingbird feeders because the wind was just making them leak. I cleaned them well and put them back out this morning along with some grape jelly. Shortly after that, I had this visitor.

I spent three days last week with my son. We both spent a day with my parents. I am so thankful he has his dog for company.

I think the dog enjoys my visits, too!
