Monday This and That

To see what other quilters are up to go to Small Quilts and Doll Quilts.

I am piecing Unit F for Coral Reef.

I have been given a LOT of ties over the years. I plan to make something with them. I don't know what yet. I have been running them through the washer and dryer as I receive them. Most are silk, some polyester, some acetate. I figure the ones that don't survive the laundry don't need to be in a quilt, even if it is a wall quilt.
Now I am starting to deconstruct them.

I got my Son's deer quilt to the flimsy stage this weekend. I took a couple of photos and texted them to him.
The response...Nice. I like it.
It is now on the quilt frame.

The rest of this post is about my yard and not quilt-related to if you aren't interested you can stop here.

These little critters, ground squirrels, have taken up residence under my front steps and under the cement pad of the driveway. They are NOT welcomed. Husband wages an ongoing battle with them every year.

Yesterday was a beautiful day. Partly sunny, slight breeze, nice temperature so I took a tour around the yard, and then I did some yard work.
I like this lighter yellow color.

Rhubarb. This bed needs some work and I am slowly getting it cleaned out.

The ground squirrels are living under those steps.

Those are the 'real' ladybugs!

I don't mind violets and dandelions at all.

Love these red tulips and I'm looking forward to seeing the hollyhocks in bloom.

Two different Clematis and some Lily of the Valley

Today is cooler and windy. Not nice for outside work. Tomorrow we are supposed to get SNOW! Possibly accumulating snow and below-freezing temps Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Besides all these lovely things that are growing, there are also Poppies coming up, the apple tree is starting to flower, Peonies are up, Lilacs have flower buds. It will be interesting to see what the snow and cold do to them.

Stay safe and well.

Monday

To see what other quilters are up to go to Small Quilts and Doll Quilts.

Coral Reef is progressing. I have all three E units pieced. Yesterday I started removing the papers and piecing them into one unit.

E Units

It is breezy, but sunny here after a few days of sprinkles and light rain off and on for several days. I am enjoying the sun. The breeze, more like gusty wind, not so much. I am also enjoying the green growing things that are starting to pop up around the yard.

Pink Tulips

Light Yellow Daffodils

Muscari

Lily of the Valley

I have a hanging plant hook outside the window by my sewing corner that I hang a hummingbird feeder from. Haven't seen any hummingbirds, but this fellow kept peeking in at me.

I noticed this rabbit in the front bed yesterday. I could tell it was up to something. After she* left I went out to see what she was up to. There is a small hole dug in there among the plants. I am wondering if she is digging a nest.
* I am assuming this rabbit is a she based on what appears to be a nesting hole and it is mating season.

Husband and I received our first covid vaccine Saturday. Both of us experienced a little soreness in our arm at the injection site, but feel fine other than that.

Stay safe and well.

Monday Again

To see what other quilters are up to go to Small Quilts and Doll Quilts.

I can't believe it is April already. My days just seem to run together lately.

In my last post, I showed my daffodils that I was impatiently waiting to see bloom. My friends who live in town were posting on Facebook showing their daffodils blooming. My plants are always at least a week behind the ones in town. Well, on Wednesday, finally, mine looked like this.

Then on Friday, after gusty winds and below-freezing temperatures, they looked like this. Laying flat on the ground.

I was so sad. But, by later that day they were looking a little better.

And today most of that bunch is standing back up and two other clumps are blooming.

Looks like I have a visitor as well. Can you see it? (upper left corner) Easter Bunny, is that you?
Good morning!

Ok, on to quilt-related photos.

I worked on Coral Reef.

I now have Units A (center), B (left), C (right), and D (bottom) pieced.

I made a butterfly block for the April color for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.
The color this month is light and bright blue.

Having my fabrics sorted in the fabric baskets made finding the right fabrics quick and easy.

I finished the next step in the mystery quilt my group is making.
This clue said to sew squares together in rows of four. 20 rows are needed.

I decided to go ahead and piece all the blocks I had cut for the Stash Busters Challenge 2021 quilt.

I have 32 blocks which are only about half what I need. I want to make a twin-size quilt to donate. If I add a border to a 7 x 9 layout I need 63 blocks. I have nothing in my stash for a border, so I will look for one online. I may introduce more colors with the aqua/teal/ turquoise I am using, depending on what I find for a border.

I continue to work on Son's deer quilt. I will post pics as I get further along.

My parents are scheduled to get their Covid vaccine later this week. I am still looking for available appointments in my area for my husband and me.

Stay safe and well.
