Design Wall Monday

Go to Judy's page to see what other quilters are up to.

It is COLD here... 1 degree, feels like -17 with the wind chill. I am thankful to not have to be out in this today.

Here is what I am working on...

I put together my block for the Quilter's Exchange. This is not a good representation of the purple. It is lighter than this pic shows. My group is meeting Saturday to start the exchange. There are 16 of us participating this time so in 16 months time I will have 16 blocks like this with this frame (my fabrics) and different centers. Last year we had 15 members participate and a couple of the members did 2 bags at once so it wouldn't take as long to complete. That may happen again this year.

And, since I got a travel iron to use at retreat I felt like it needed a tote. So I made this...

The pattern came from Nancy's Notions and included the heat reflective fabric.

It opens up and lays flat as an ironing surface.

After much thought I decided to start the 365 Challenge. There is a new block each day for 365 days and you end up with a 90 inch square quilt.

Here are the first blocks. These are 3 1/2 inch, unfinished.
I have printed and cut fabrics for the blocks up through today to take to retreat, which starts Thursday and goes through Sunday. I am excited about it, but I have so many projects going right now that I am having a hard time deciding what to take. I do come home every night so I can always change my mind!

Decisions, Decisions...

My Quilter's Exchange group is starting a new exchange this month. We will each be making a 6 inch block to fit inside a Johnny Around the Corner frame. I chose Dancing Shoofly as my block.

I need to decide if I want the dark on the inside ...

or the outside.

At first I was thinking I would like the center block to be 'floating' and have the dark on the outside. But I kind of like the dark on the inside.

There is also the secondary pattern that forms...

I think I like the white space that forms when the dark is on the inside.

My fabrics are the Isle of Enchantment Collection from Connecting Threads which is no longer available. The Royal Purple solid and Faux Battenburg Lace white on white that I am using in the frame and as background in the blocks are available.

I had ordered the fabrics a year or so ago with no plan in mind because I loved the bright cheerful colors. Now I have a plan! Just have to figure out which layout for the frame.

Decisions, decisions!

Design Wall Monday

BRRR it's cold here. Seven degrees with a feels like temp of -4. At least we did not get the snowfall amounts that were predicted. We ended up with just a dusting instead of the 3-6 inches predicted.

Go to Judy's page to see what other quilters are doing.

I had a productive weekend.
I finished the quilting on this one...

The binding is cut, now I need to sew it together and get it on this quilt.

I also quilted this little one. I think it will make a nice baby girl quilt.

The binding is made for this one, just need to get it sewn on.

Design Wall Monday

Go here to Judy's page to see what other folks are working on.

On my wall are a few more of the Frivols blocks...

My Quilter's  Exchange group is starting a new exchange at our next retreat later this month. We are each making 6 inch blocks to go in the middle of a frame.
I was hoping to get a my fabrics ready for this. I have shopped twice and found the perfect fabrics.
Only they aren't perfect. At least not together.

I found this lovely batik snowflake panel fabric and planned to use it as alternate blocks to make my quilt bigger.

So I put together a block using my 6 inch block in the center.

Next to the snowflake block.... I don't like it.

The 'frame' is too dark and I have nothing else in my stash that will work.

I looked around online for something, but was worried the colors wouldn't be right.

So I have decided to use some other fabrics in my stash for the exchange and I will figure out something else to do with the snowflakes, because I really do like them. Lots of other people must have liked them too because everywhere I look it and fabrics that coordinate
with it are sold out.

This little 4 inch piece is made from the waste triangles created from making the frame.
