I spent the first part of the summer getting my entries ready for the fair.
Then, a few days before fair started I helped clean the building and get the display cases arranged. I helped the night before the first day accept entries. I helped the first day placing the entries in front of the judge. That is my favorite part - I get to see the quilts spread out and hear the judge's comments. Then I help arrange them in the cases. I worked the last day checking out entries to their owners and finally cleaning and closing up the building. It was very hot a few days during the fair, but not too bad on the days I had to be there.
And, I did pretty well on my entries. I had 10 and they all got a ribbon!
This is Smokey River in the Spring colorway. I wasn't crazy about it when I was working on it. I like it better now that it is completed. It got 1st in the Quilts, machine quilted class.
This is Old Crow.It got @nd in the Quilts, machine quilted class. The judge gave Smokey River a 1st over this one because she thought there was more piecing in it than Old Crow! After she was finished judging them I told her this one sure seemed like it had more piecing the Smokey River. :)
They both fit nicely on my bed.
This baby quilt got 3rd in the Baby Quilt, machine quilted class.
I didn't notice until just now that my camera buttons got switched and
was set to focus on the middle and blur the top and bottom.
My 12 inch blocks got 1st and 2nd...
My 6 inch blocks got 1st and 2nd ...
My miniature quilt (less than 15 x 15 inches) got 1st ...
My knitted scarf/shawlette got 3rd... in the Knitted or Crocheted, any other item class.
I also knitted an infant sweater and cap, but I can't find that photo. I guess I will have to post that one later.
The quilt group I am in had a retreat this past Thursday through Sunday. I spent that time working on Little Bits Diamond Log Cabin by Cindy Edgerton.
I was trying to decide if I wanted to square it up as the directions said or leave it in the shape it was and add black to fill in the spaces. My quilty group friends thought it was a shame to cut off parts that had taken so long to piece. In the end I have decided to square it up. Now I am trying to decide if I want to add the very small inner border in black and a 2 1/4 inch border in a red paisley. I am thinking of just adding a 2 1/2 - 3 inch border in black. Decisions, decisions....
I am also working on a machine sewn Cathedral Windows using a WOW and batiks. I love how it is turning out.
I finished up the exchange block before the meeting on Saturday...
Now I have the next bag to work on.
I am working hard trying to get as much done as I can before school starts.... in less than a month. After that I just do not have the energy at the end of the day to do much of anything so all my sewing and quilting have to wait until the weekends. I am an aide at an elementary school. There are preschool and kindergarten classes only in that building. I work just with the kindergarteners and by the end of the day I am worn out!
