Design Wall Monday...

On my wall this week...

I started this quilt in August in anticipation of a great niece due the end of November. She arrived in early December and her quilt is still not finished.
I had trouble deciding on certain fabric for the petals.

I removed the print with the yellow and green. I thought it might work in the center.

Then I had trouble deciding on the centers.

I ended up using a mix of all of the options.
Then I had trouble deciding on the cornerstones in the sashing.

I ended up using a blue and green print.
Then I had trouble deciding on a border.

I ended up deciding on no border. I will bind with the blue and green print and use the darkest green (also used for the leaves) to make a piped binding.
By the time this is published I will have started on the quilting. I recently figured out how to schedule posts - Yay me!

On a side note: I really dislike FireFox. I started using it several years ago because I was unhappy with Internet Explorer. I have found that lately I am using IE again. Firefox 'stops working' frequently and sometimes I get this message - 'Firefox has encountered a problem and will now close'.
I have spent too much time trying to write this post. It has taken me too long because of Firefox and its issues.

Design Wall Monday

This week I have been working on...
Still piecing the Fire Island Hosta. I have pieced another blue and white strip that goes on the outside edge of the leaves and am working on another one. There will be eight of these.

I am a scrap saver. Even yarn scraps! These tiny mittens were knit with left-overs from socks and other projects. I think they are just so cute and might make nice package ties. Or they could hold rolled up bills of money.
I like to have quick projects to work when I can't or don't feel like sewing.
The pattern can be found on Ravelry here. It is by Andrea Kopacek and is call Mini Mitten Ornaments.

The quilter's exchange group I am in will be exchanging scrappy 4-patch blocks and scrappy 2 1/2 inch strips at the April retreat. I have been working on these a little at a time and finished them up today. They are bagged and ready to go.

Now back to Fire Island Hosta. I do enjoy the paper piecing, even though it does take a while and there seems to be some waste. But, not for me! I will use the scraps in this...

Design Wall Monday, late again

I didn't get around to posting yesterday so here goes for today...

My Quilter's Exchange group met this weekend to trade bags. We are all doing star blocks. My star is Solomon's Star. The pattern can be found here at Quilt Blocks Galore.

The bag I have this month is bright pinks and greens.

I don't know if it shows in the picture, but the red fabric in the center has metallic gold dots on it.

The greens in the top left and center have metallic gold on them, as well.

As you can see peeking out from under these blocks is the Fire Island Hosta that I am still working on.

I also finished another T-shirt quilt. This time with her college shirts.

I made one a few years ago for the same girl with her high school shirts.

Well, I get an emergency day from school today because of hazardous road conditions due to freezing rain and icy roads. Hhmmm - what to do?

First up will be to finish cleaning up the mess that the waterbed leak caused during the night. A patch was glued on and a new mattress has been ordered - at 1:00 am. Sheets are in the wash now. I would really like to get a conventional bed and mattress, but my husband likes crawling into a warm waterbed at night, especially in the frigid cold of winter. It is nice to sleep on a warm bed.

Then, I guess I will just have to sew the rest of the day! Darn. :)
